Press release: Tyson Moves to Increase Lion’s Share of Market Control  

August 29, 2018— According to Bloomberg, Tyson Foods closed a deal to purchase Keystone Foods LLC from Marfrig Global Foods SA for a reported $2.16 billion. Tyson, along with three other companies (Pilgrim’s Pride, Sanderson Farms, and Perdue Farms), currently controls more than half of the U.S. poultry industry. With this purchase, Tyson will now have a larger global reach as Keystone Foods is a main supplier of chicken nuggets to McDonald’s Corp.

Introducing the Equity at the Table Fellows

The Come to the Table program is pleased to announce the Equity at the Table Fellowship. The Fellows Program is designed to support and strengthen faith and community leaders who are passionate about equity and food access and who are engaged in projects that support these goals. The current Fellows are LaShauna Austria, Rev. Dele, Kim Pevia and Fatimah Salleh.

2019 Come to the Table Conference Request for Workshop Proposals

The 2019 Conference will be held March 12-13 at Friendship Missionary Baptist Church in Charlotte, NC. The theme of the Conference is Called to Action: Uprooting Hunger and Cultivating Justice. We are seeking workshops covering the following topics: community development, organizational development, theology and food, creative expression, self-care, disaster relief/preparedness, public policy/advocacy, racial equity/inequities in the food system, gender equity, environmental justice, poverty/economic justice, immigration, workers’ rights, agriculture/farming, and community gardening.
